Role Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) facilitates unit operations and patient flow in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab under the supervision of the Manager of Cardiology. The RN maintains confidentiality and aligns with the hospital’s mission, values, and behaviors. All employees are expected to provide high-quality care and service to patients, staff, physicians, volunteers, and guests.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Anticipate, plan, direct, and evaluate patient care provided by Cardiac Catheterization Lab staff and ancillary personnel.
• Manage and direct patient flow through the unit.
• Monitor care planning, delivery, and outcomes for the unit’s patient population.
• Collaborate with other healthcare team members to provide coordinated, safe, and compassionate patient care.
• Serve as an expert clinical practitioner and role model for staff.
• Work closely with cardiologists on invasive procedures and patient outcomes.
• Support cardiologists, management, nurse coordinators, and unit staff during invasive procedures.
• Assist during procedures to support efficient and timely patient care.
• Delegate tasks and adjust care according to patient acuity and staff availability.
• Assist with invasive procedures, including scrubbing, equipment use, and hemodynamic calculations.
• Document patient status, tests performed, and follow-up plans.
• Participate in the operation of therapeutic and interventional equipment.
• Contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
• Participate in the on-call schedule and demonstrate dependability and flexibility.
• Maintain professional growth and development.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required; BSN preferred.
• Current Illinois RN license required.
• Current CPR certification required.
• ACLS certification required.
• Demonstrated caring attitude and professionalism.
• Willingness to develop knowledge and skills and mentor others.
• Ability to relate effectively to professional and non-professional staff.
• Ability to perform duties accurately.
• Ability to cooperate effectively with others and work as part of a team.
• Ability to delegate appropriately.
